Ecoship

In 2009, the Green Key certificates are issued for the first time to sailing ships. Green Key is an international standard that stands for sustainable business in the tourism sector.

De Zwarte Valk has gold!

The crew of the Zwarte Valk is proud to participate in this project.

You can also help!

Do not take disposable tableware with you. Everything is on board and, after use, can be washed in the dishwasher. There are biodegradable dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, toilet cleaner, toilet paper, detergent, soap and shampoo on board.
If you still would like to bring your own soap, please choose a biodegradable kind.
Wherever it is possible, we pump out our dirty water  ashore, if that’s not possible it has to be pumped overboard and especially soap has a harmful effect on aquatic life.
We also try to reduce waste. Take as many large packs as possible.

It is in simple little things!

During the renovation we have used a lot of environmentally friendly materials and had great interrest in new products. Most of the lighting is LED, the ground wood is FSC, the lining Dutch oak, the engine meets the latest requirements and we do the maintenance as much as possible in the docks.

Jantine about the Green Key certificate:
It means we are very serious about the environment and our surroundings. We live on the water and are always working with the weather and  the wind, therefore we are very aware environmentally.

To get hold of Green Key, we must meet certain conditions. These criteria are i.a.:

  • Involvement of personnel in the environmental issues
  • Organize nature and environmental activities
  • Sustainability
  • The use of environmentally friendly cleaning products and toilet paper
  • Taking many energy and water saving measures
